Police are seeking witnesses and urging anyone with relevant information to come forward following the tragic death of a cyclist in a collision.
At approximately 06:55 hours on Friday, 21 November, law enforcement responded to Old Kent Road, SE1, in conjunction with the London Ambulance Service, after a vehicle struck a cyclist at the intersection with Dunton Road.
The victim, a 34-year-old cyclist, received immediate medical attention at the scene. Despite the valiant efforts of paramedics, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. His relatives have been notified and are currently receiving support from specially-trained officers.
The driver of the involved vehicle, a 68-year-old man, fled the scene. However, he was located by the police shortly thereafter and subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released on bail, pending further investigation.
Detective Sergeant Rob Groombridge from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit stated, „An investigation is underway, and officers are working to establish what happened. I’m appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or may have recorded it on their dashcam to contact us promptly.“
