During a recent operation aimed at combating crime and anti-social behavior in south-west London, law enforcement officials confiscated 37 illegal or dangerous e-bikes and scooters. This significant operation took place in Merton and was part of broader efforts to enhance community safety.
The month-long initiative, dubbed Operation Frostwatch, commenced on November 17 and concluded on December 24. In addition to the confiscation of e-bikes, officers made 57 arrests, recovered various weapons, and issued a closure order on a property associated with gang activities.
Focus on Community Safety and Criminal Networks
Operation Frostwatch was designed to improve road safety, dismantle criminal networks, and address concerns voiced by local residents. Throughout the operation, police recovered seven knives, a firearm, and located 15 wanted individuals, which included a sex offender.
Authorities secured a closure order for an address in Pollards Hill, identified as linked to gang behavior. Police believe this initiative will aid in reducing crime and anti-social activities while alleviating tensions between competing factions in the area.

Sgt Matthew Bower emphasized that addressing the criminal and anti-social use of e-bikes and high-powered scooters has been a top priority for law enforcement. He noted that these vehicles are often connected to crimes such as street robberies and drug trafficking, creating a „major concern for local residents“.
„Seizing 37 e-bikes was one of the operation’s standout successes,“ he stated, highlighting the importance of the initiative in maintaining public safety.
