On April 9, 2026, law enforcement officials from the Metropolitan Police confiscated more than 500 mobile phones believed to be stolen during a raid at a shop located in north-west London.
During the operation, four men, aged 22, 25, 34, and 63, were taken into custody on charges related to handling stolen goods, drug possession, and intent to distribute.
This operation is part of the Metropolitan Police’s ongoing initiative to combat mobile phone theft. Officers are employing advanced technology and intelligence, including drones and high-performance Sur-Ron electric bikes, to apprehend criminals and effectively disrupt the market for stolen mobile devices.
As a result of these concentrated efforts, the Metropolitan Police reported a decrease of 10,000 mobile phone theft incidents in London over the past year.
Inspector Yu Zhang from the Metropolitan Police’s local policing team in Brent stated, „We understand mobile phone theft remains a major concern for Londoners and that’s why we have worked hard to drive down offending. Seizures such as this show that we are not only targeting individual phone snatchers, but also those who handle and profit from stolen devices. Londoners deserve to feel safe and we are committed to relentlessly disrupting the organised criminal networks fuelling this crime.“
The raid took place at a convenience store on Kilburn High Road and was executed as part of a coordinated week of action in Brent aimed at addressing theft, robbery, and crimes related to e-bikes. The shop was targeted following intelligence that suggested it was being used for the distribution of Class B drugs.
Three of the suspects have been released on bail, while one remains under investigation.
Earlier this year, the Metropolitan Police engaged in a four-week intensive campaign against mobile phone theft throughout London, resulting in 248 arrests and the recovery of 770 stolen phones. Additionally, four individuals accused of handling stolen mobile phones are set to stand trial later this month. In a related incident, illegal delivery riders were arrested in a dawn raid on a caravan park in London, highlighting ongoing issues with crime in the area. Furthermore, a 13-year-old boy was arrested over a viral trend that has been spreading across schools in London and beyond.
