The Metropolitan Police have announced that five gang members have been sentenced to a total of 107 years for their roles in the murder of 21-year-old Giovanny Bedoya, who was fatally stabbed in an alleyway in Walworth. Giovanny’s mother expressed her devastation over her son’s death, stating that he left home without any intention of causing harm. She described the moment he was confronted with violence as he was chased down the alley. In her victim impact statement, she said,
„I want the world to know that my son was innocent. He was not fighting with anyone. He came out of his address and within seconds, was met with violence. He was not carrying a weapon. He did not go out to harm anyone. The five people guilty for his murder, however, intended to do just that, and for whatever reason they chose my son, they took away his life in the most brutal of ways.“
She further lamented her vulnerability as a foreign national, stating,
„My son was killed in a country that I do not know, and I do not speak the language of. This put me in an extremely vulnerable position as I have had no choice but to rely on other people this entire last year.“
She expressed gratitude to the police for their support throughout the investigation.

The gang members were sentenced at the Old Bailey on May 20, following their conviction for murder on April 14. The sentences are as follows:
- Joseph Jimenez, 22, received a life sentence with a minimum term of 22 years.
- Angel Gonzalez Angulo, 19, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years.
- Bryan Villada Hernandez, 20, also received a life sentence with a minimum term of 21 years.
- Zozoro Mohamed Olivier Boizo, 21, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years.
- Christian Batista Gonzalez, 22, received a life sentence with a minimum term of 22 years.
Investigation Overview
The investigation was extensive, involving the review of over 1,500 hours of CCTV footage to establish the connection of the five men to the murder of Giovanny on April 14, 2025. Police were alerted to a group fighting with knives near Hillingdon Street and Langdale Close at 9:16 PM. Officers discovered Giovanny behind residential flats with multiple stab wounds, and he was pronounced dead at 10:07 PM. A post-mortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was multiple sharp-force injuries.
Evidence and Arrests
Hernandez was apprehended at the scene, and forensic analysis of his clothing revealed the victim’s blood, along with damage consistent with hiding a knife. Messages recovered from his phone indicated discussions about destroying evidence and concerns regarding police activity. CCTV footage from a nearby location helped link the group to the attack and to a squat on Langdale Close.
Angulo was seen changing clothes and carrying a bag after the attack, which prosecutors argued was an attempt to dispose of blood-stained items and weapons. Jimenez was arrested on April 21 in Chichester after fleeing London, while Angulo was taken into custody on April 23. Boizo was arrested on May 2, and Gonzalez was captured near Barcelona on May 19 before being extradited back to the UK.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, who led the investigation, commented on the severity of the sentences, stating,
“Today’s sentences show that those who commit vicious and brutal attacks will face significant, life-altering consequences. The group acted together during a sustained and extremely violent attack, chasing and killing Giovanny, showing brutality and reckless violence.”
She expressed her condolences to Giovanny’s family and friends, acknowledging their courage throughout the trial. Blackburn also thanked the Walworth community for their support during the investigation, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in such cases.
