Officers are conducting an investigation into the tragic shooting of 14-year-old Eghosa Ogbebor in Woolwich, leading to the arrest of two additional individuals on suspicion of murder.
The inquiry commenced on Thursday, April 2, when police received reports of a shooting at 15:40 hours on Lord Warwick Street. Upon arrival, officers, along with the London Ambulance Service, found Eghosa Ogbebor suffering from severe injuries. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members of Eghosa have been informed and are receiving support from specialized officers during this difficult time.
The murder investigation is ongoing, and on Saturday, April 4, law enforcement apprehended two suspects in Woolwich, a 16-year-old male and a 19-year-old male, both of whom are currently in custody. In light of recent events, including the Reckless trend spreading across the UK, authorities are taking these incidents very seriously.
Additionally, a 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remains in custody as well.
Earlier, on Friday, April 3, two boys aged 14 and 16, along with an 18-year-old man, were taken into custody in relation to Eghosa’s death but have since been released on bail while investigations continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is overseeing the investigation, stated:
“Our team of dedicated detectives are continuing enquiries to investigate Eghosa’s tragic death. Residents in Woolwich may have noticed a large amount of police activity last night, as officers arrested three further people in connection with the investigation. We appreciate the concern that Eghosa’s death has caused, particularly among the local community who will continue to see an increased police presence around the area. There may be people who have heard information or witnessed suspicious activity in the area but not yet contacted police. We urge these people to contact us and assist with the investigation. We will continue to support and update Eghosa’s family as the investigation continues and our thoughts remain with them at this incredibly difficult time.”
