A teenager has been charged with murder following the tragic shooting of 14-year-old Eghosa Ogbebor in Woolwich.
The 16-year-old suspect, from Romford, was formally charged on Friday, April 10, and is scheduled to appear at Thames Magistrates Court on Saturday, April 11.
Initially arrested on Saturday, April 4, the suspect was released on bail but was taken back into custody on Thursday, April 9.
The investigation commenced on Thursday, April 2, after police received reports of a shooting at 15:40 hours on Lord Warwick Street. Officers, alongside the London Ambulance Service, arrived to find Eghosa Ogbebor suffering from severe injuries. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Specialist officers are providing ongoing support to Eghosa’s family during this difficult time.
As part of the investigation, a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were arrested on Saturday, April 4, on suspicion of murder, while a 46-year-old man was detained for allegedly assisting an offender. All three individuals were subsequently released on bail.
Additionally, two boys, aged 14 and 16, along with an 18-year-old man, were arrested on Friday, April 3, in relation to Eghosa’s death and have also been released on bail as inquiries continue. This incident has drawn attention to the rising trend of violence among youth, similar to the case of a 13-year-old boy arrested over viral ‘school wars’.
On Friday, April 10, another 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody as the investigation unfolds.
