A shotgun-wielding assailant journeyed from London to Cardiff to violently confront an innocent individual he mistakenly believed had stolen significant quantities of cocaine. Michael Dumbuya, 37, along with two associates, subjected the victim, Cody Hudd, to a brutal beating before filming himself standing on the victim’s chest, demanding, „Where’s my food?“
Dumbuya, residing on York Street in Marylebone, traveled to a residence in Blackwood, Cardiff, on May 20, where they committed the violent act. The defendant had been hired by a wholesale drug dealer based in Columbia to intimidate Hudd for purportedly being responsible for the loss of 6 kilograms of cocaine, as reported by Wales Online.
Details of the Assault
During a sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday, it was revealed that Hudd was awakened around 1:15 a.m. by an assailant who grabbed him by the face and throat, inquiring, „Where’s my food?“ Hudd, confused, attempted to explain that he had no knowledge of what the man was referring to; however, he was met with physical violence, including slaps and punches to the face.
As the attack progressed, Hudd noticed two other attackers standing at the entrance before being forcibly pulled from his bedroom and into the garden, where the assailants demanded to know the whereabouts of the „bricks of coke.“ One of the men, armed with a hockey stick, proceeded to beat Hudd, who insisted they had the wrong person.
Consequences of the Attack
The physical assault resulted in multiple injuries for Hudd, including a dislocated jaw and other facial injuries, leaving him in pain and unable to eat. The brutality of the encounter was captured on video by Dumbuya himself, demonstrating the level of intimidation and violence employed.
After the attack, Dumbuya fled the scene, leading police on a high-speed chase that reached speeds of 150 mph before crashing. His vehicle was subsequently found to contain a loaded and cocked sawn-off shotgun, alongside balaclavas and an imitation weapon, underscoring the premeditated nature of the attack.
Judicial Outcome
Dumbuya later pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and dangerous driving. The court determined that he had a history of involvement with organized crime, serving as an enforcer for drug-related intimidation.
In a victim impact statement, Hudd expressed the deep and lasting effects the assault had on his life, noting the loss of friends and family and the significant mental and physical toll it had taken on him. The court ultimately sentenced Dumbuya to a term of 14 years and five months in prison, accompanied by a four-year extended license period post-release.
